Ayushman Bharat Yojana, also known as Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PM-JAY) , is India’s largest government-funded health insurance scheme launched in 2018. It provides free medical treatment up to ₹5 lakh per family per year for economically weaker sections, benefiting around 50 crore Indians. The scheme offers cashless hospitalization for critical illnesses like cancer, heart disease, and kidney failure at 25,000+ empaneled hospitals nationwide. Eligible families, identified through the SECC 2011 database, can check their status online and avail treatment without financial burden. This initiative aims to ensure universal healthcare access, reducing medical expenses and improving public health in India.
